Under the Rubble

From Under the Rubble

How God Protects Us When Life Gets Heavy and Hard

“He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” — Psalm 91:2

Have you ever felt like life dropped a whole building on you?

Not just one problem.

Not just one bad day.

I’m talking about rubble.

Bills.
Heartbreak.
Disappointment.
Loss.
People walking away.
Doors closing.
Prayers that seem unanswered.
Situations you never asked for but somehow found yourself standing in.

And sometimes, if we’re honest, we look around and say:

“God, where are You?”

Because when you’re buried under the weight of life, it can feel like God is silent.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

Just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean God isn’t protecting you.

Sometimes God doesn’t keep us from the rubble.

Sometimes He protects us underneath it.

LOOK AT THE RUBBLE DIFFERENTLY

When a building collapses, everything on the surface looks destroyed.

But rescuers know something we don’t always understand.

A person can be underneath the rubble and still be alive.

And sometimes that’s exactly where we are spiritually.

We’re underneath the rubble of life, but we’re still breathing.

We’re still praying.

We’re still believing.

We’re still getting up.

We’re still showing up.

We’re still saying, “Lord, I trust You.”

That’s not coincidence.

That’s protection.

You may not look like what you’ve been through because God has been covering you in places nobody could see.

THINK ABOUT THE THREE HEBREW BOYS

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn’t get protected by avoiding the fire.

They went into the fire.

Daniel 3 tells us that they were thrown into a fiery furnace because they refused to bow.

Now here’s the part that gets me:

When the king looked into the furnace, he didn’t see three men.

He saw four.

They were in the fire, but they were not alone.

They were surrounded by flames, but the flames couldn’t have the final say.

They were in a dangerous place, but God was right there with them.

And when they came out?

The Bible says they weren’t burned.

Their clothes weren’t destroyed.

And they didn’t even smell like smoke.

That’s what divine protection looks like.

Sometimes God doesn’t say,
“I’m going to keep you out of the fire.”

Sometimes He says,

“I’m going in there with you.”

AND THAT’S FOR SOMEBODY READING THIS RIGHT NOW

Maybe your life feels heavy.

Maybe you’re carrying something nobody knows about.

Maybe you’ve been smiling while secretly asking God:

“How much more can I take?”

Let me remind you:

You are not abandoned.

The rubble may be heavy, but it has not buried your purpose.

The pressure may be great, but it has not canceled God’s promise.

The situation may look impossible, but God is still God underneath the rubble.

And sometimes the evidence that God has been protecting you isn’t that you avoided the hard thing.

The evidence is that the hard thing didn’t destroy you.

You cried—but you’re still here.

You broke—but you’re still here.

You lost—but you’re still here.

You questioned—but you’re still here.

You got tired—but you’re still here.

And sometimes your greatest testimony isn’t:

“Look what God kept me from.”

It’s:

“Look where God kept me.”

GOD KNOWS HOW TO KEEP YOU

Psalm 91 doesn’t promise that trouble will never come.

It reminds us that God is our refuge.

A refuge is a place you run to when the storm gets too strong.

And I’ve learned that sometimes faith isn’t standing on top of the mountain shouting, “I believe!”

Sometimes faith is lying underneath the rubble whispering,

“Jesus, help me.”

And guess what?

He hears that prayer too.

You don’t have to have the right words.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.

You can simply say:

“Lord, I’m tired. But I trust You.”

And that is still faith.

WHAT IF THE RUBBLE ISN’T YOUR ENDING?

What if the thing you thought was burying you is actually becoming the place where God is revealing just how much He has been carrying you?

What if this season isn’t about God punishing you?

What if it’s about God protecting something in you that the pressure was trying to destroy?

Your faith.

Your purpose.

Your testimony.

Your compassion.

Your voice.

Your relationship with God.

Because sometimes we don’t discover how strong our faith is until we’re forced to use it.

Pressure reveals what comfort can hide.

And rubble has a way of making us reach for God differently.

FROM UNDER THE RUBBLE

I don’t know what your rubble looks like.

But I know this:

Don’t mistake being buried for being forgotten.

There is a difference.

Joseph was thrown into a pit, but the pit wasn’t his destiny.

Jonah was in the belly of a fish, but the fish wasn’t his final destination.

The three Hebrew boys were in the fire, but the fire wasn’t their ending.

And Lazarus was in a tomb, but the tomb couldn’t keep him there.

God has always been in the business of bringing life out of places that look dead.

So if you’re under the rubble today, don’t give up.

Take another breath.

Pray another prayer.

Believe one more time.

And if all you can say is:

“Lord, I’m still here.”

Then say it.

Because sometimes “I’m still here” is the beginning of your next testimony.

One day, you’re going to look back at the rubble and realize:

“I wasn’t buried.
I was being preserved.”

God was covering me.

God was keeping me.

God was strengthening me.

God was protecting me.

And when the dust settled…

I was still standing.

And that’s the testimony.

The rubble was heavy.
The season was hard.
But God was faithful.

I came out with my faith.
I came out with my purpose.
I came out with my praise.

And I came out knowing that if God could keep me under the rubble, He can bring me out of anything.

Keep going.

Your story isn’t over.

You’re still here.
